5 Books I Loved This Month 📚 | From Thrillers to Tearjerkers

It’s a brand new month, and that means… new book recs! 🥳

I’m back with another cozy roundup of five books I read recently and absolutely loved (or at least really liked, with some notes 🙃). I’ve been doing this every month for a while now, and somehow I never run out of new books to talk about. There’s always a new story waiting, a plot twist I didn’t see coming, or a character I want to scream at through the pages. And honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Okay, now let’s talk about the five books I read recently and what I really thought about them—no spoilers, just vibes.

1. The Last Letter from Your Lover by Jojo Moyes

If you usually skip the romance section… this might be the book that changes your mind.

We’re talking about two timelines (1960s and early 2000s), a mysterious letter, a woman with amnesia, and a love story that is so much more than a love story. This one hit me hard, in the best way.

Real talk: I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did. I’m not a romance girlie unless there’s something more—mystery, a twist, real depth. This book delivered. But please skip the Netflix adaptation. I watched it, and I was genuinely mad. They stripped all the nuance away and made it feel like just another cheesy romance. The book? Layers. Drama. Sadness. Hope. Read it.

2. They Wish They Were Us by Jessica Goodman

This one’s for my YA thriller lovers. It’s Gossip Girl meets How to Get Away with Murder energy.

A high school murder, an exclusive secret society, and a girl who won’t let the past stay buried.

Even though I’m not in high school anymore (lol, far from it), I still eat up a good YA mystery when it’s done well—and this one is. It kept me turning pages, and I really liked how Jill (our main girl) handled her search for the truth. If you’re into school settings, elite circles, and drama with a side of death, grab this one.

3. They’ll Never Catch Us by Jessica Goodman

Another one by Jessica Goodman, because I had to see if her follow-up delivered.

This one focuses on two sisters who run cross-country and the new girl who shakes things up—and then goes missing. Did I love it as much as the first one? Not quite. Some parts felt a little far-fetched, but I still really enjoyed the ride. I’ll definitely keep reading Jessica’s future books, because she’s got a way of building tension that keeps you hooked.

4. You’ll Be the Death of Me by Karen M. McManus

Three friends skip school and accidentally end up as witnesses (and suspects) in a murder case. 👀

The premise is so good—and if you’ve read One of Us is Lying, you already know Karen McManus knows how to do twisty teen thrillers. This one had strong Breakfast Club meets murder mystery vibes. I liked it overall, even though the ending didn’t totally blow me away. That said, it’s still a solid pick if you want something fast-paced and juicy.

5. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

This book wrecked me—in the best possible way.

I’ve avoided fantasy for a while because I thought I wasn’t into it… and then came Addie.

She makes a deal with the devil to live forever, but no one will ever remember her. The story jumps between centuries, from 1700s France to present-day New York, and wow. It’s beautiful. Heartbreaking. Philosophical. Magical. All the things.

And when someone finally does remember her? I gasped. I sobbed. I did not emotionally recover. This book is now one of my favorite reads of all time. I don’t say that lightly.
